Logan is AgGene's Chief Executive Officer. He has expertise in the field of gene editing and development of genetically engineered crops. Logan was raised on a grain farm and has experience in the ag sector as a sales agronomist. Logan is an industry representative on the Canadian Society of Agronomy executive board.
Marcus is AgGene's Chief Scientific Officer. He is a professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Calgary. Marcus has 25 years of experience in molecular biology with over 40 peer-reviewed publications and 2 patents. He was the recipient of the 2017 C.D. Nelson Award.
Sarah is a board member for AgGene. She is the owner and president of 2020 Seed Labs Inc. in Nisku, Alberta. Her company had the first internationally accredited seed testing lab in Canada. Sarah has expertise in business development, regulatory affairs and registration of new seed varieties in Canada.
Rick is a board member for AgGene. Rick farms approximately 5,500 acres in Manitoba. He is a major stakeholder in a number of plant genetics companies including NorthStar Genetics. He is an experienced commercial seed grower and has extensive experience licensing traits from multinational seed portfolios.

As AgGene's Lead Scientist, Mendel, a 2022 PhD graduate from the University of British Columbia, combines on-farm practical experience from his Alberta grain farm upbringing with advanced scientific skills. With expertise in wetland ecology, canola biotechnology, and plant cell wall biochemistry, Mendel's diverse background supports AgGene's projects. He possesses skills in molecular biology, tissue culture, gene editing, microscopy, and biochemistry. Awarded competitive scholarships from NSERC and Alberta Innovates, Mendel focuses on editing plant genomes in AgGene's lab and collaborates with Dr. Skori and Dr. Samuels on future project planning.
Outside of AgGene, Mendel spends time with his wife and daughter. His other interests include photography, skiing, and gardening.
Ayush is AgGene's Business Development And Tissue Culture Lead. Ayush graduated with his Masters in Biomedical Technology (MBT) from the University of Calgary in 2022. During his undergraduate B.Sc. in Plant Biology (Honors), Ayush developed his passion for agriculture while working to increase seed protein with Dr. Skori in Marcus Samuel
Ayush is AgGene's Business Development And Tissue Culture Lead. Ayush graduated with his Masters in Biomedical Technology (MBT) from the University of Calgary in 2022. During his undergraduate B.Sc. in Plant Biology (Honors), Ayush developed his passion for agriculture while working to increase seed protein with Dr. Skori in Marcus Samuel’s Lab. By integrating the business knowledge from his master’s degree, Ayush performs hands on research while assisting the business operations of AgGene.
Outside of AgGene, Ayush can be found supporting the Oilers and Arsenal! Some of his other pastimes include playing and coaching tennis, and advocating for mental health/addiction awareness.
Connor is a Mitacs Accelerate Post-Doctoral Fellow working jointly with AgGene and the University of Calgary. Connor completed his PhD training at the University of Calgary in 2023. During this time he successfully developed gene-edited lettuce and pea plants using CRISPR/Cas9.
Ethan is AgGene’s Tissue Culture Scientist. His primary research during his Master's was dedicated to evaluating gene editing systems in canola. His research journey started in the laboratory of Dr. Marcus Samuel during his undergraduate B.Sc. in Plant Biology, in 2020. The following year, he obtained a prestigious MITACS research grant
Ethan is AgGene’s Tissue Culture Scientist. His primary research during his Master's was dedicated to evaluating gene editing systems in canola. His research journey started in the laboratory of Dr. Marcus Samuel during his undergraduate B.Sc. in Plant Biology, in 2020. The following year, he obtained a prestigious MITACS research grant that fueled his work of creating open-pollinated varieties of herbicide-resistant canola.
Outside of AgGene, Ethan plays recreational hockey and takes care of his saltwater reef aquariums.
